Switzerland

Switzerland surprised the world after beating Germany over the weekend. A 5-3 demolition featuring an Eren Derdiyok hattrick; he scored his first two goals in a span of two minutes which certainly changed the match’s atmosphere. Goals from Stephan Lichsteiner and Admir Mehmedi completed the rout. This of course happened without key German players, so while it’s a reason for Swiss fans to celebrate, there is still so much ground to cover for them.

Switzerland couldn’t make it three straight in the Euros – they have been qualifying in the last two tournaments but couldn’t make it this summer after finishing third in their qualifying group. They will be sorely missed in this summer’s affair – they are after all capable of turning around games – and many will hope them well on their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Romania

Generations of players come and go, and for Romania, they are now focusing on the ‘come’. Needing younger players to replace the likes of Chivu and Mutu, there has been some sort of difficulty for the national team to rise back up to the standards they have been playing with years back. This was very apparent in their Euro 2012 qualifying games; they just didn’t have the edge they were once known for.

Part of the issues meddling with the process of rebuilding is the fact that there haven’t been a lot of Romanian players making the top leagues in Europe in the past years. There’s this absence of a ‘factory’ of quality players that could probably tip Romania’s progress in the next few years for the worse. And unless they produce a good player or two in the next year or so, then you wouldn’t really expect them to make a massive impact anytime soon.

Switzerland v Romania Betting Preview

Romania still possesses a few players who are top quality, so while they are not the favorites to win this game, they surely have a fight to give. Switzerland are much better in quality though, and coming off a big win against Germany – notwithstanding the nature of the game in that it was just a friendly – they could carry a good air of form to this match.

Betting Tip

Verdict: Switzerland to win, 3-2.

Tip:

Switzerland is at 4/7 to win, a very humble rate compared to Romania’s 5/1 to win. While Switzerland can bag a lot of goals like they did against Germany, they also can concede a number of them. A final score of 3-2 then is likely, and gratifying too at 25/1. Be sure to cover the game to go over 2.5 goals at 17/20, with Eren Derdiyok to score anytime at 7/5. Lightning may strike twice in this game, so Derdiyok could score two or more goals again at 8/1
