Teams News

Manchester United

The defending champions may just have fallen short of a 20th league title with a loss against rivals City in their last meeting. Having kept City at bay for the majority of the game, Sir Alex Ferguson succumbed to a set-piece late in the first half – a Vincent Kompany goal that may just have won the title.

All is not yet lost however, and the Red Devils know this. Level with City in terms of points and with two more game-weeks to go, United still has the title to play for. They will however pray that City drop points in the course of two weeks — an unlikely prayer that could turn out as divine intervention.

Manchester United could also topple a superior City goal difference in order to win the league. This is a far cry undoubtedly; City are better by 8 goals. United too has not impressed a good lot against Swansea and Sunderland – the two teams they will be playing to end the season. In the reverse fixtures against these two sides, United has gone on to win but only with a narrow score-line of 1-0.

Swansea

To the delight of visiting Wolverhampton fans, Swansea threw away a 4-1 first half lead to give the Wolves a point at the Liberty Stadium via a 4-4 draw. This definitely gave the championship-bound Wolverhampton side something to be happy about. For Brendan Rodgers and his Swans, this game is food for thought – this is definitely not the type of defending they have shown all season long.

Swansea’s trip to Old Trafford is non-bearing for the team but should mean everything for the hosts. Warriors fight harder when wounded, and this means that the Swans will be up against a side that will look to win the game and bag a lot of goals at the same time. This could also force Swansea to revert back to a favored 4-2-3-1 formation as their 3-4-3 experiment against the Wolves backfired big time.

Manchester United v Swansea Betting Preview

Swansea is a no-pushover team. They are proven to be potent in terms of scoring, while showing glimpses of defensive genius all season long. Manchester United meanwhile does not usually engage in a goal-fest — the 4-4 draw against Everton at home was in fact very unexpected — so while they could be looking to score more goals and better their goal difference, this game has a good chance of ending up with a narrow scoreline.

United’s quality is way better than Swansea, and given the urgency of the time, they cannot afford to lose this game.

Betting Tip

Verdict: Fulltime score will be 2-0 in favor of the hosts.

Tip: A United win is, as expected, favored by the books so look elsewhere for rewards. Danny Welbeck’s injury should hand Javier Hernandez playing time, and given the Mexican’s nose for goal, his 9/2 odds to score the last goal of the game is a good punt.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is another valuable asset. At 4/1 to score anytime and 16/1 to score first or last, he should satisfy all risky punters out there looking to make it big this weekend.
