Lazio v Inter
Inter visits Lazio on May 13, Sunday. Game starts 19:45 GMT.
Lazio’s drive for Champions League qualification will be tested once again this weekend, with third-place Udinese just a point away and Napoli and Inter just breathing down Edoardo Rejas’ neck. With that the Italian manager will be encouraging his troops to go and play for a win, hoping that Udinese let up at the same time keeping Inter and Napoli off their tails.
Lazio is coming off a win against Atalanta at Bergamo, but their current form is hurting them badly – only five points in the last six outings. If not for draws against Siena and Lazio, and an upset of a defeat against Novara, the Biancocelesti could be sitting pretty at third place now.
Inter has slowly but surely clawed its way back in contention for European football next season. A derby win against Milan featuring a Diego Milito hattrick could kickstart a strong finish for the Nerazzurri. It will be a trophy-less season for the 2010 treble-winners, but if Inter do find a way to play in Europe next season, there is some sort – no matter how small – of redemption in that.
Inter’s man of the moment is none other than Diego Milito. The team’s leading scorer with 25 in all competitions this season woke up from a four-game goalless slumber. A derby hattrick could be what the Argentinian need to finish the season in style as a win against Lazio will definitely give them a shot at the Europa League next season.
Lazio v Inter Betting Preview
Inter has been dominating this fixture especially when the game is staged at the Stadio Olimpico. Three in the last four went the Nerazzurri’s way, with Lazio winning the most recent – their only win at home against inter in the last six. Recent form also hands Inter the advantage. Lazio can only hope for the better as they do have a fight, but possibly only enough to play for a draw – their hopes for CL football slowly fading as the season comes to another dramatic end.
Verdict: Lazio and Inter to draw, 2-2.
Tip: Given both teams’ tendency to find themselves in a goalspree – Inter in 7 of their last 8, Lazio in their last three against Inter – the game to go over 2.5 goals at 8/13 is almost a clear certainty, which also means that it’s not that as rewarding as you would like it to be.
Inter has a slight advantage, with them to win with the odds of 6/4 compared to Lazio’s 17/10. But with the game suddenly a must-win for both sides, a draw at 12/5 is tempting at the same time gratifying. A 2-2 draw at 10/1 then makes a lot of good sense.
