2012 Premier League Predictions
With a little less than five months to go before the 2011-2012 season comes to a close, the table is finally spacing out a little and giving an indicaton as to where teams might finish come the end of the season. How it’s going to look like after the dust settles is up for debate but we’re going to give you our opinion and 2012 Premier League predictions.
So with the dots in place, here are possible connecting lines that give you the final picture of the current season. For odds on any of the below markets check out our best football betting sites page.
Premier League Winner Prediction
Enter drum roll – and the winner will be… Manchester City.
The noisy half of Manchester is the most likely to benefit from the ageing and arguably inconsistent title contenders including their neighbors Manchester United and the teams from London namely Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
We’re not suggesting by any means that City will run away with it though; they’ve had their own troubles lately but en route to last game, it’s going to be more of a battle of who drops less points than who wins more games.
We could be in line for one of the closet ever Preimer League finishes and it’s a tough one to call but when Man City get their Afican Cup of Nations players back there’s a good chance that’ll give them the boost they need to end up top of the pile.
Top 4 Finish Predictions
It seems pretty likely that the top two spots will be occupied by both teams from Manchester (sorry Spurs fans). How about the next two steps in the ladder?
Tottenham look the most likely to finish third and if they had slightly more squad depth, especially in front of goal, then they’d be more serious contenders for the title. With Harry Redknapp at the helm till at least the end of the season they look set to be playing Champions League football next year.
Unlike the title-holders from Old Trafford, there’s a lot more to the season finale than endurance. It’s called experience and speaking of experience, there’s a looming possibility that Chelsea will steal third and Tottenham could even drop as far as fifth – with Arsenal having an outside chance for a top four finish. However given the impact of the African Cup of Nations it’s more likely that the Stamford Bridge faithful may settle for fourth spot and the Gunners will be the team to miss out and end up 5th.
It’s going to be seriously tight but our four Preimer League top 4 finishers are Man City, Man United, Tottenham and Chelsea.
To Qualify For the Europa League
Automatic qualification for the Europa League is likely to fall on fifth-place mainstays Arsenal. Liverpool are likely to mount a challenge but they may just end up playing knockout games for qualification and that’s only if they can hold off the challenge of Newcastle.
Newcastle, for all their fervor in the opening weeks of the season, will likely end up seventh and have to make it through qualification to make the tournament proper.
All that, unless upsets happen in the FA and League Cups and teams outside the projected ones end up claiming Europa League spots. At this point though it looks unlikely that anyone outside of the top 6 will lift a domestic trophy this season.
Preimer League 2012 Relegation Prediction
The grim bottom-end of the table has teams with one foot in the grave already. The other foot is clinging on for dear life and with about five teams playing to get out of the troubled waters here onward should be quite the melee.
Wigan look likely to experience the fall while QPR, a team in the mid-table running a month or two ago, are now on the edge. Unless new manager Mark Hughes can turn things around fast a 19th place swansong seems imminent.
This leaves us with three teams fighting to prevent an 18th place finish and playing in the Championship next season – Blackburn, Wolves, and Bolton. Among the three teams Blackburn or Bolton look most likely and we wouldn’t be surprised to see goal difference decide things.
Our 2012 Premier League predictions relegation: Wigan, QPR and … …. Bolton.
